The Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has received a $10,000 grant from Verizon Wireless through the Verizon Foundation to support the club’s after school educational enrichment programs for more than 1,200 kids across South Florida.

The grant was presented by Alex Senderoff of Verizon Wireless during the recent Boys and Girls Clubs “Wild About Kids” gala.

The programs, conducted at five Boys and Girls Clubs locations throughout Miami-Dade County, provide students from elementary to middle school with tutoring and homework assistance in numerous subjects — computer access, arts and crafts, and other after school activities.

“The Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami has provided local kids and the entire community invaluable services for many years,” said Pam Tope, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless. “Verizon is proud to support this great organization.”

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has served the community since 1940 with a wide variety of programs including educational enrichment, summer camps, sports coaching and leagues.

“Education is one of our main missions and it’s important that we have the resources to help the kids,” said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs. “Many of our students don’t have an environment at home that promotes educational achievement, so support from partners such as Verizon is critical to help us give these kids a chance to reach their full potential.”
