Celebrate the ‘Festival of Lights’ during Kendall Hanukkah events

For many Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, brings back fond memories of childhood years and serves to renew a sense of identity.

The Hanukkah lights provide warmth, joy, strength and inspiration. Such is the purpose of a communitywide celebration to take place on Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Dadeland Mall this Hanukkah along with many other Hanukkah events taking place including at the Barnes & Nobles and The Home Depot in West Kendall.

Hanukkah, a celebration for all time, is highlighted by the kindling of a menorah each night for eight nights of the holiday. It is a holiday that enriches lives with the light of tradition. In ancient times, Jews rededicated the temple in Jerusalem with the menorah. Today, it is rededicated to making this world a better and brighter place.

Hanukkah also propagates the universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression, and light over darkness.

In its Hanukkah outreach campaign Chabad of West Kendall and Dadeland join thousands of Chabad centers across the globe that are staging similar public displays of the menorah and its symbolic lights. From Australia to Africa, Colombia to Hong Kong, New York City’s ground zero to the White House lawn, hundreds of thousands will experience the joy of Hanukkah with Chabad.

Join Chabad in a public display of unity at this exciting Menorah Lighting Ceremony. Bring the kids and make this your special Hanukkah celebration.

The lighting will take place on Dec. 8, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Dadeland Mall, 7535 N Kendall Dr. (in the new wing of the mall in front of Express). Following the kindling, the program will feature delicious Hanukkah food, children activities, live Hanukkah music, and a great Balloon Show. But that’s not all.

Join the Jewish Center for life of West Kendall and Dadeland at the Hanukkah Story Time at the Barnes & Noble in West Kendall, 12405 N. Kendall Dr., where the stories of “Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah” and “Honeky Hanukah” come alive. This event will include music and special crafts for the little ones and will take place on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 4:30 p.m. Join in on Dec. 13 for a fun and free menorah building workshop at the Home Depot in West Kendall. Accompanied by a parent, the children will don aprons, make menorahs from prepared cut wood, paint their creations, and insert candle holders. The menorah is lit during Hanukkah which begins on Dec. 6 at night.

“The kids love the menorahs that they make on their own; they treasure it, and they then feel more involved in the holiday,” said Rabbi Getzy Rubashkin, director of the Jewish Center for life.

The event is free, but an RSVP is required. For more information or to RSVP, contact Chabad Jewish Center of West Kendall and Dadeland at 786-501-4072 or by email at Rabbigetzy@gmail.com.
