Center Stage Miami Dance Academy is an elite school of dance led by the artist, Vanessa Lopez. Ms. Lopez’s school has been operating for a little over a year in a studio especially designed by Ms. Lopez. Located in the Kendall area, the academy offers classes in ballet, tap, Hip-Hop, lyrical dancing, flamenco and jazz, as well as exercise classes in yoga, pilates and Zumba. The dance academy offers an environment where children and adults can explore diverse dance forms.
Co-educational instruction is provided for children from three years to 18 years old and the school is concerned to keep the family engaged in the student’s learning process.
“Our goal is to maintain a family environment for our students by encouraging parents to be involved with the student’s practice at home,” said Ms. Lopez.
Ms. Lopez believes in teaching her students a great awareness and appreciation of dance as an art form; a world of movement and expression. She also has a policy to encourage new emerging talents, dance trends and practices.
“With the talent, training and dedication of our individual dancers and team we have completed a successful first year,” said Ms. Lopez.
The year at Center Stage Miami is capped off with an annual recital in which the students, Ms. Lopez and teachers take part. The show is choreographed by Ms. Lopez and the teachers and features costumes designed by the staff. The recital showcases student progress and gives them the experience of performing before a large audience.
Vanessa Lopez brings her training and experience from Cuba where she began her ballet career at the age of nine at the statesponsored Alejo Carpentier Elementary School of Ballet in Havana. Later, she attended the Havana Ballet Conservatory where she earned a certification in choreography as well as Ballet Mastery, specializing in Ballet Direction. She is a graduate of the National School of Arts (ENA), the country’s most prestigious ballet school, then led by Alicia Alonso. Mrs. Alonso who earned the esteemed title of prima ballerina assoluta, founded her own company.
Ms. Lopez came to the United States in 2005 and performed professionally in classical and character dancing. She choreographed and staged new and classical productions such as Carmen, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Bella Cubana. She continues to perform and teaches her students the expressiveness, grace and beauty of dance, in addition to its techniques and history.
“We work to teach students as professional dancers and we mentor them by helping them get into schools and earning scholarships, said Ms. Lopez.
