More than $11,000 was raised during the Charles George Scholarship Golf Tournament hosted recently by the Miami Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). The tournament took place October 12, 2024 at Golf Club of Miami.
“The annual Charles George Scholarship Golf Tournament allows us to bring the public and private sectors together for a good cause, which is providing scholarships to deserving students at historically Black colleges and universities,” said Sonless Martin, tournament committee chairman. “Our five scholarship winners now have resources that will enable them to go that much further in life.”
The scholarship winners were Carlos Delgado, Paladre Johnson, Victoria Jones, Lanaria Moore and Jordan Sealy.
The tournament’s first-place honors went to the team of Richard Lopez, Alex Diaz, Jorg Villamarzo and Chris Clement, sponsored by ProKel. Second place recipients included Riley Davis, Brian Wardlaw and Dexter Fain, sponsored by Broward Ebony. Third place went to Endrea Frazier, Genevieve Cave-Hunt, Grant Denty and Luis Tejada, sponsored by AECOM.
“COMTO provides networking opportunities to minorities and businesses through advocacy, training and professional development,” said Wallace Aristide, State Representative-Elect of District 7. “They’re bridging the gap between the current and incoming generations for a better tomorrow, which is why I can’t thank Sonless Martin and this organization enough for allowing me to participate in their scholarship event.”
The mission of COMTO is to ensure opportunities and maximum participation in the transportation industry for minority individuals, veterans, people with disabilities and certified MWDBE businesses through leadership training, professional development, scholarship and internship funding, political advocacy, partnership building and networking opportunities.
