Congregation Dor Chadash, one of Kendall’s most active, community-oriented synagogues, is offering free, weekly adult Hebrew reading classes open to the public.

The seven-week course, taught by retired attorney Marty Levine, takes place in the Dor Chadash Tabor Social Hall, 9400 SW 87th Avenue, every Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“This class is an introductory class for adults to learn to read Hebrew or to brush up on their Hebrew reading skills,” said Levine, who also teaches in the Dor Chadash Sunday school. “The class is open to all students and no prior knowledge of Hebrew is required. Even if you don’t know the difference between an Aleph and a Bet, you’ll enjoy these classes.”

The National Jewish Outreach Program (NJOP), an independent, non-denominational, non-profit organization, supplies materials for the class.

“Learning — or relearning — Hebrew will enable class members to participate in and better enjoy their Shabbat services,” said Dor Chadash Rabbi Jonathan Tabachnikoff. “Also, for those parents of children preparing to become Bar or Bat Mitzvah, this class will prepare them to help their kids for this lifecycle event.”

For more information on the adult Hebrew reading classes, contact Levine by telephone at 786-493-9908 or via email at Martylevine@bellsouth.net.
