Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the County Commission recently celebrated the Seniors Who Serve volunteer award ceremony to honor senior residents for exceptional community service.
The program was launched earlier this year after the commission approved a resolution from District 6 Commissioner Rebeca Sosa.
“It is important that we recognize the length of community service provided by our senior citizens,” said Commissioner Sosa.
The Community Action Advisory Board – Seniors Who Serve Award Selection Committee convened and provided the following nominations to Mayor Levine Cava:
Marshall L. Davis for Arts, Music, and Entertainment Service;
Loretta Scippio-Whittle for Education and Mentorship Services, 1st Alternate Dinorah Evarts;
Pedro and Angelina Rodriguez for Health Care Service;
Marjorie York for Intergenerational Service;
Dr. Joyce Price for Public Service, 1st Alternate Linda Williams, 2nd Alternate Meriel Collins Seymore, 3rd Alternate Anna Price, and 4th Alternate Shirley Ellison.
“We are excited to recognize senior residents who continue to serve and contribute to our community,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “It was a real joy to celebrate such motivated and dedicated civic leaders who are continuing their service into retirement years.”
Nominations for senior residents were submitted by members of the community. The only requirements to be nominated are to be a resident of Miami-Dade County, 60 years or older, and to volunteer in Miami-Dade County.
“CAHSD’s Elderly and Disability Services Division is honored to facilitate this Awards Program,” said CAHSD’s director Sonia Grice.
