The Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board (DVOB) and the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department’s (CAHSD) Violence Prevention and Intervention Division will host a kickoff event in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW First St. Miam-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Commission chair Oliver G. Gilbert III., county commissioners, and other community leaders will participate. To register for the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff event visit www.eventbrite.com/e/miami-dade-2024-domestic-violence-awareness-campaign-cahsd-dvob-tickets-998582425917?aff=oddtdtcreator.
The ceremony is part of a month-long initiative aimed at raising awareness about domestic and intimate partner violence prevention. It also highlights the local resources and support available for those affected in our communities. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.
As part of the awareness initiative, buildings throughout the county will be illuminated in purple to show solidarity. If you work in a building that can be illuminated, contact Griselle Marino at 305-297-3139 or griselle.marino@miamidade.gov.
All meetings and events of the Domestic Violence Oversight Board are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
