The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has earned national recognition from the US Water Alliance for its groundbreaking “Water is Life” campaign, which has been awarded the prestigious Outstanding One Water Communication Award.
The award celebrates the campaign’s exceptional storytelling, creative engagement strategies, and its success in elevating public awareness about water conservation and stewardship.
“I want to congratulate our Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department for this incredible achievement,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said. “This award is a testament to the team’s creative vision and commitment to engaging our county residents.
The Water is Life Campaign not only highlights how water impacts every aspect of our lives — it also reminds us of the importance of protecting and preserving this vital resource for generations to come.”
The Water is Life campaign was selected for its innovative approach to public education, promoting water literacy and conservation throughout Miami-Dade County. The US Water Alliance praised WASD’s ability to connect with a diverse community while emphasizing the essential role water plays in daily life.
“As the largest public utility in the Southeastern United States, WASD provides high-quality drinking water and reliable wastewater services to a population of more than 2.8 million people,” said Jay J. Fink, PE, WASD director. “The success of this campaign aligns with the mayor’s One County vision by highlighting the collaboration across county departments and our commitment to serving our community.
“I’m proud of the way we have used this campaign to not only engage but educate our residents about the need to upgrade and future-proof our infrastructure so we can continue to provide these essential services that safeguards the public’s health, while supporting a thriving community,” Fink added.
WASD’s Water is Life campaign blends a variety of tools such as digital media, strategic partnerships, and grassroots outreach, to promote the value of water among Miami-Dade County residents. Since its debut in late 2023, the campaign’s mission has been to engage residents and customers by strengthening their connections with water.
By highlighting each person’s unique experiences with this vital resource, it promotes an appreciation and realization of the value of water and how WASD works around the clock to provide this essential resource and service.
