Deadline nears for Youth Fair’s 2018 Scholarship Program

Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition announced it will distribute $200,000 in scholarship money in 2018, the highest amount in its 67-year history.

The deadline to submit applications for The Youth Fair’s annual college Scholarship Program is Feb. 23, 2018. Winners will be announced in April at a dinner ceremony at the Fairgrounds.

“Education is our priority, and we are proud to announce that The Youth Fair’s success and the generosity of our friends and partners puts us is in the position to help more graduating seniors than ever before to attain their dreams for higher education,” said Robert Hohenstein, Youth Fair president and CEO.

Students from public, private and charter schools, home schools and alternative education and vocational programs are invited to apply for the $1,000 scholarship.

The scholarship application can be downloaded from The Youth Fair website at www.thefair.me/thefair/exhibits-programs.php. Students must turn in the application to their school college assistance program advisor or comparable person before Feb. 23.

Support from The Youth Fair’s concessionaires, who hold annual fundraisers to benefit the Scholarship Fund, as well as generous donors and a successful Youth Fair in 2017 made the 29 percent increase in giving possible.

The Scholarship Fund also supports scholarships and prizes distributed to Miami-Dade County Public high school juniors and seniors who compete in the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity Prize in Ethics Essay Contest. In addition, The Youth Fair distributes six $1,000 scholarships to college students enrolled in the Theater Arts Department at Florida International University.

The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition (The Youth Fair) is the largest charity event in South Florida. The not-for-profit association is dedicated to promoting education and agriculture while showcasing and rewarding youth achievement and providing quality family entertainment, all without taxpayer dollars. The annual Youth Fair exhibits more than 63,000 student projects to nearly 600,000 Youth Fair guests and, in 2017, awarded more than $530,000 in college scholarships, cash premiums and awards to students. To date, The Youth Fair has presented well over $11 million to the Miami-Dade community.
