DETA Pickleball Club announced recently that it will send its first-ever team to compete in the prestigious US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Apr. 26-May 3.
This marks a milestone for the club, the largest pickleball facility in Miami-Dade County with 17 dedicated championship courts, underscoring its commitment to the development of pickleball in the community.
DETA Pickleball Club’s sponsorship of a team for this national tournament reflects the dedication and hard work of the club’s players and coaches and the increasing popularity of pickleball in South Florida.
“Fielding a team for the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships is a testament to the growth of our club and the incredible talent within our ranks,” said David Ensignia Sr., founder of the DETA Pickleball Club. “We’re excited to represent our community on the national stage and showcase the passion and skill of our players.”
To celebrate National Pickleball Month, DETA is opening its courts to all players competing in the U.S. Open tournament, providing practice courts to train and sharpen their skills from 7-10 p.m. on Friday nights.
“We’re here to support all the local players getting ready for the US Open,” said Juan Carlos Pardi, director of DETA Pickleball Club and a U.S. Open coach and doubles player. “Our courts are open — come by and get some practice in before heading to Naples.”
In South Florida, DETA Pickleball Club is at the forefront of promoting pickleball in the community, mirroring a nationwide movement to expand the sport’s reach. Their active participation in events like the U.S. Open, coupled with their generous offer to host local practice sessions, demonstrates a clear commitment to growing the game.
“DETA Pickleball Club’s involvement, along with their hosting offer, highlights the leadership and dedication we’re seeing across the pickleball community, not just in Florida, but globally,” said Ben Weinberger, tournament director, Minto U.S. Open Pickleball Championships. “Clubs around the country are working to foster participation and enthusiasm, driving the sport’s remarkable growth at every level.”
The team representing DETA Pickleball Club at the U.S. Open in Naples consists of dedicated and talented local players:
Oscar Moran, Mix Doubles, Doral
Adrian Palacios, Men’s Singles, Kendall
Gustavo Melendez, Men’s Doubles, Kendall
Marcell Cubilla, Men’s Doubles, Kendall
Saylid Lopez, Mixed Doubles, Doral
Juan Pardi, 50+ Men’s Doubles. Kendall,
Decio Raven, 50+ Men’s Doubles, Kendall,
For Adrian Palacios, 19, a former tennis player, the opportunity to compete at the U.S. Open representing DETA Pickleball Club is a privilege.
“I began playing pickleball for fun,” Palacios said. “I never imagined I would have the opportunity to compete in something beyond the local level. I am honored to represent the club and take my game to a bigger stage.”
The club staged qualifiers, inviting its members to compete for a spot on the seven-player team. After intense competition, the final team quickly emerged.
“Choosing our team wasn’t easy — it was a tough process, with our regulars battling it out on the court. Many talented club members took part in the process, but the final seven stood out. Their skills, teamwork, and dedication made them the perfect representatives for our club,” Ensignia said.
DETA invites Pickleball
The DETA Pickleball Club U.S. Open team practices every Friday players to help train, test players evening, and the public is welcome to watch. Pickleball players with a DUPR rating of 3.50 or higher are invited to join DETA’s team preparations. This training is especially important as the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships, one of the sport’s most prestigious events, draws top players from across the nation to compete for titles and recognition.
Pickleball’s success and popularity is mirrored by the support of big brands. Babolat, a leading tennis brand, supports DETA’s team, supplying the players with footwear to ensure top performance and paddles. Natural Systems, a Miami-based vitamin company, is providing uniforms for both practice sessions and tournaments. The team also is supported by Metro-Dade K9 Services in Kendall.
“Babolat is proud to partner with DETA in sponsoring their team at the U.S. Pickleball Championships,” said Alfredo Lopez, Babolat’s representative for Florida. “We’re committed to supporting the growth of pickleball and providing athletes with the best equipment to enable them to compete at the highest level.”
