Talbot brings profound knowledge of diabetic health and lifestyle choices to the organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes

The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) announces the commitment of Sam Talbot to its National Board of Directors. Semi-finalist on season two of Top Chef, Talbot joints the board with a deep understanding of the impact of food on life and life on food to continue outreach to the diabetes community.

Talbot’s experience as a chef, author, philanthropist, and television personality allows for his genuine approachability and natural charisma to draw in key audiences and increase awareness. Diagnosed at a young age with type 1 diabetes, Talbot lives with a unique perspective that has become the driving force in all of his projects. He is at the forefront of the sustainable living movement, seeking to break down walls between the way we eat and live.

“I am positive that Sam’s experience and ties to the community will help further strengthen the Foundation’s efforts to connect with patients on a relatable level,” said Sean Kramer, CEO of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. “With this addition to our team, the National Board remains committed to discovering a cure for diabetes and supporting the research to do so.”

Talbot has worked on many endeavors while championing his philanthropic causes. In 2015, he launched Beyond Type 1, a non-profit organization focusing on inspiring the diabetes community. Talbot is also the founding executive chef of The Surf Lodge in Montauk, which has become a nationally acclaimed culinary destination.

“Ever since I was diagnosed with T1D as a kid, I have been passionate about helping others like myself and making the journey easier,” said Talbot. “With the help of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, I am now able to connect with more likeminded individuals worldwide in partnership with an organization dedicated to finding a cure.”

Talbot is currently working on his third book and new television and restaurant concepts. He is living in Venice, California, where he recently appeared as a celebrity judge on the television game show series Chopped.
