DSWM shares hurricane season preparation tipsWith hurricane season underway, the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is providing residents with essential tips to prepare for potential storms.

• Use any of the 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) across Miami-Dade County to drop off items such as tree trimmings, worn-out lawn furniture, small amounts of construction debris (up to three cubic yards per day), old appliances, and as many as four tires.

• Trim trees and shrubs early in the season and clear loose branches. Schedule a Bulky Waste Pickup for yard debris — residents get two pickups per year, as much as 25 cubic yards each.

• Eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites by removing items that collect standing water, such as old appliances, buckets, barrels, tree stumps, and tires. Visit www.miamidade.gov/global/solidwaste/mosquito/home.page for more tips.

• Store hazardous materials like paint and chemicals in a safe, elevated location to prevent leaks or spills. Never place them curbside — take them to one of DSWM’s two Home Chemical Collection Centers.

To further support residents during hurricane season, the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management offers additional guidance through its #LearnwithDSWM webinar series. These sessions provide valuable tips on storm preparation, proper waste disposal, and post-storm cleanup procedures.
