Engagement and learning are essential for our children this summer

The Children’s Trust invests the most significant portion of its budget into youth
development programs that support children with thoughtful and well-researched
services outside of school hours. We know that generally, while children are in school,
they are engaged, learning, and safe, which allows parents and caregivers across our
community to work, improving our overall economy. It is critical for children and teens to
have the same interaction and engagement opportunities that nurture their academic,
physical, mental, and emotional well-being and growth in the after-school hours and
during the summer.

In addition to our significant investment in after-school programs, The Children’s Trust
funds nearly 300 summer camps every year for children and teens of all ages and
abilities, offering everything from STEM to arts, physical fitness, reading supports and
beyond. We also invest in programs that operate summer internships and full-time
employment opportunities to allow teens across Miami-Dade to earn money while
preparing them for real-world careers.

We have always known that summer learning loss too often prevents our kids from
achieving all they can when the school year returns. This loss of learning was
significantly worsened in recent times due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on
traditional in-person school operations. While all youth development programming
funded by The Children’s Trust includes academic supports, this summer for a second
year, we have taken it a step further and partnered with Miami-Dade County Public
Schools for “Summer 305.” This initiative places certified M-DCPS teachers who utilize
grade-level reading and math curriculum supports in Trust-funded summer camps. Our
kids need this help, in and outside of school hours, and we are proud of this
collaboration.

The Children’s Trust is committed to keeping all kids and teens safe this summer. To
