In light of recent reports of minor safety disturbances in at least one of the county’s Driver License Office, the Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector is taking a proactive measure in collaboration with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) to safeguard the well-being of customers and employees alike.

As a result, Florida Highway Patrol troopers are being deployed to be stationed at each one of the nine county’s Driver License Offices to ensure these facilities continue to provide services in a safe environment for everyone.

As part of the ongoing constitutional transition, the Office of the Tax Collector will be progressively absorbing the administration of all county’s Driver License Offices, which were previously managed under the jurisdiction of the FLHSMV. Members of the community are urged to remain patient during this transition period and respect the protocols in place, as the end goal is to provide a better and more efficient customer experience.

The Tax Collector’s Office appreciates the prompt response and support from the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and the Florida Highway Patrol in addressing these safety concerns. Their leadership has been instrumental in ensuring the deployment of FHP troopers during this critical time, reinforcing the safety and security of county facilities.

All customers are urged to remain respectful toward the public servants who are working diligently to meet the needs of the community. Acts of violence or disruptions will not be tolerated, and FHP troopers will take appropriate actions against any individual(s) who threaten the safety of the facilities or cause disruptions in operations. Obtaining a driver’s license is a privilege, not a right, and the public servants responsible for issuing them deserve respect and professionalism.
