The Florida Department of Education has awarded $8,314,350 to the Miami-Dade County Public School (M-DCPS) district through the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive (Workforce CAP) Grant Program.
This funding will be used to create and expand innovative K-12 and postsecondary dual enrollment workforce development programs across the district, providing students with hands-on educational experiences in high-demand fields.
“This significant investment in our students’ future is a testament to our commitment to providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the 21st Century workforce,” said Dr. Jose L. Dotres, superintendent of schools. “We are particularly excited to announce that approximately $3 million of this grant will be dedicated to establishing the SpaceHUB Mega-Magnet focused on Aerospace Science in partnership with the Space Florida Academy Program.”
The SpaceHUB will be a cutting-edge learning environment where students can delve into the exciting world of aerospace, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in areas such as:
• Advanced Aerospace Science
• Aerospace Applied Engineering
• Aerospace Applied Robotics
• Aerospace Computer Science
• Aerospace Electronic Systems
In addition to the SpaceHUB, the Workforce CAP grant also will support the enhancement and expansion of other M-DCPS K-12 Career and Technical Education programs, including:
• Artificial Intelligence
• Building Construction Management
• Agritechnology
• Entrepreneurship – Business Management and Analysis
These programs will provide students with industry-recognized certifications and credentials, preparing them for high-skill, high-wage careers in growing sectors of the Florida economy.
