Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida members of former Troop 214 met at Camp Mahachee recently to honor Sophia Lambert, a beloved and lifelong Girl Scout who was tragically killed in a car accident in Gainesville this past January.

Sophia had started her Girl Scout Gold Award project, but due to COVID and all the related complications, she didn’t finish her project before graduating high school last spring and heading to college at the University of Florida. The fellow girls in her troop, under the leadership of Troop Leader Jennifer Solomon, came together and completed the project in her memory.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Lambert family and included a celebration of Sophia’s project completion, and a campfire gathering for laughter, stories, s’mores, and a few tears. This is a beautiful example of how the Girl Scout experience creates support, service to their communities, and, as stated in the Girl Scout Law — each girl is “a sister to every Girl Scout.”
