Only four of 10 candidates for a quartet of open seats on West Kendall’s Community Council 11 appeared to seek voter support at the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Association’s (KFHA) July 28 Forum.
Teacher Jose Soto, who wants to replace incumbent Patricia “Shannen” Davis, emphasized “getting involved in your community” while adding he wanted “to practice what I preach” in a bid for the at-large seat that represents the entire district.
Davis was not present due an assignment in the Keys, as reported “in her behalf” by Lawrence Percival, president of Greater Kendall Community Activists Inc.
“Planning and zoning is a quasi-judicial process in our community,” said Steven Miro appearing with opponent Marco Valdes as contenders for the SubArea 112 seat.
“Such matters need a common sense approach,” Miro added.
“Shame on you if you don’t participate in your community,” Valdes declared. “It’s vital to see that your council makes the right decision that affects both you and your neighbors.”
Alex Diaz, third candidate for the sub area north of Sunset Drive and west of SW 127th Avenue did not appear.
“Zoning changes are vital,” said Humberto Ortega, seeking the for SubArea 114, a southwest area of West Kendall. “It’s important for citizens to become involved with the community council for the best interests of all Kendall.
Ortega is opposed for the seat vacated by Jay Reichbaum by Marcos Javier Novero and Andres Alvarez, neither of whom appeared.
Two other no-shows at the forum were candidates Miguel Diaz and Mauricio Rodriguez, contesting for the seat in Sub Area 113 in southwest Kendall.
