Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department along with Million Trees Miami-Dade County, on Mar. 16, distributed 250 trees at City Furniture’s Dadeland location.
The tree giveaway was in partnership with City Furniture and the Arbor Day Foundation’s Community Tree Recovery program, which funds the reestablishment of neighborhood trees lost to natural disasters, such as Hurricane Irma, which devastated the county’s tree canopy in 2017.
“Planting trees is one of the best ways to protect our communities from extreme heat and climate change, and we are extremely grateful to City Furniture and the Arbor Day Foundation for contributing to our goal of expanding Miami-Dade’s tree canopy,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This is a wonderful example of how we’re collaborating with valuable partners to increase our residents’ quality of life and build a more resilient county.”
Programs like the Tree Recovery Program help to provide much needed benefits such as protection from extreme heat and stormwater mitigation to create a more thriving environment for the residents of Miami-Dade County.
“Trees play a vital role in beautifying our neighborhoods and improving our quality of life.
As we continue to recover from the impacts of hurricanes, the distribution of free trees represents a significant step forward in restoring our tree canopy,” said Miami-Dade County District 6 Commissioner Kevin M. Cabrera, Neat Streets Miami-Dade County Board chair.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Community Tree Recovery program and City Furniture for joining us in this endeavor.”
The Arbor Day Foundation, the world’s largest membership nonprofit dedicated to planting trees, identifies and assists communities affected by natural disasters through its Community Tree Recovery Program, relying on an extensive network of local community tree-planting organizations.
“Miami-Dade Parks is grateful to partner with environmentally conscious corporations like City Furniture through our national partner, Arbor Day Foundation, in our efforts towards fulfilling Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Million Trees Miami-Dade County goal of attaining a 30 percent canopy countywide,” said Miami-Dade County Parks director Maria I. Nardi.
“These 250 trees will provide tangible benefits and help create a greener, more livable community for our residents.”
The new trees were provided free of charge and help replace trees damaged and destroyed by storm seasons in Miami-Dade County. The Arbor Day Foundation’s Community Tree Recovery program, a national program underwritten by FedEx and Foundation members, aims to replace trees in communities affected by natural disasters throughout the United States. The program has helped distribute more than 5.3 million trees since its inception in 2005 together with private partners like City Furniture.
“In the wake of natural disaster, trees can be the promise of hope a neighborhood needs in order to heal,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “By replanting trees, local planting partners are taking meaningful action to foster resiliency in their communities and lay the roots of a greener future.”
“We were honored to have partnered with Million Trees Miami-Dade County and the Arbor Day Foundation to help restore our natural ecosystem,” said Andrew Koenig, CEO of City Furniture. “Trees will not only enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods but also serve as symbols of resilience and renewal. We are committed to supporting environmental efforts that contribute to a greener, more vibrant community.”
As pioneers in sustainability, City Furniture champions their environmental efforts through their visionary 2040 Green Promise. This bold initiative signifies their unwavering dedication to neutralize their carbon footprint by 2040, and encompasses their eco-friendly delivery fleet, innovative facilities, and expansive recycling endeavors.
