Miami-Dade County School Board District 7 member Mary Blanco recently joined students, families, and staff to celebrate the grand opening of the new iTech Academy at Devon Aire K-8 Center in Kendall. The opening marks a significant step forward in expanding innovative learning opportunities for middle school students.
Serving grades 6-8, the iTech Academy offers hands-on instruction in robotics, coding, programming, artificial intelligence, drones, and chess. The program is designed to cultivate the technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills necessary to prepare students for future academic pathways and a technology-driven workforce.
“This Academy is about opening doors for our students and giving them access to the skills that will shape tomorrow’s workforce,” Blanco said. “By introducing advanced technology and problem-solving at the middle school level, we are investing in our students’ confidence, creativity, and long-term success.”
The Academy was established through a valued partnership with Kaseya. Blanco expressed appreciation to Mónica Dávila, Kaseya’s director of communications, for attending the event. She also thanked Javier and Heather Dugarte for their dedication to the school and their commitment to broadening student opportunities, and recognized artists Rodney Royal and Caroline Elaine for enhancing the academy with vibrant, inspiring artwork.
Blanco praised the leadership of principal Milagro Arango and assistant principal Ana Pachon Reboredo, as well as the South Region Office and South Region superintendent Rafael Villalobos, and thanked the Office of School of Choice and Parental Options for their continued support and vision in advancing innovative education across District 7.
