Greater Miami Symphonic Band to begin 45th annual concert season in OctoberThe Greater Miami Symphonic Band begins its 45th annual concert season with two exciting concerts in October.

The season’s opening concert is Sunday, Oct. 15, 6 p.m., at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall (UM campus) at 1314 Miller Dr., Coral Gables. GMSB music director Robert Longfield and guest conductor Jay Rees, director of the Frost Symphonic Winds at the University of Miami, will lead the band.

The program features many classical symphonic band compositions including: Fourth Suite for Band (Alfred Reed), Prelude and Celebration (James Curnow), Phantom of the Opera (Webber), In Glory Triumphant (Robert Longfield), Shenandoah (Frank Ticheli), and many more.

On Sunday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m., in Pinecrest Gardens Banyan Bowl, 11000 Red Rd., Pinecrest, the band will present a “Young People’s Concert” featuring Spongebob Squarepants, Willy Wonka, and The Grumpy Old Bear, Raiders March, I’ve Made My Plans For The Summer (featuring vocalist, Susie Blank Wolfe), Feuerfest Polka (Anvil solo by Dexter Dwight), and other music for the young at heart. It will be a fun concert for kids of all ages.
