A Christmas tree lighting with free rides for West Kendall youngsters got the holidays off to a festive start Nov. 21 and 22 at Kendale Lakes Library. The event was sponsored by five local officials including Miami-Dade Commissioner Juan Zapata, State Rep. Anteres Flores, U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia, State Rep. Jeanette Nunez as well as former school board member and U.S. Representative-elect Carlos Curbelo. Face painting, caroling (see photo) and free treats were enjoyed by hundreds visiting the evening celebration, one of a series that will continue through December with visits from Santa and special events each weekend.
