On Saturday, April 26, at 8 p.m., the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center will host Complexions Contemporary Ballet, one of the most revolutionary companies in contemporary dance today. Led by celebrated founders and dance icons Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions has redefined the boundaries of ballet with bold, socially conscious, and visually stunning performances. Tickets are available here.
Part of the performance will be “Woke” (2019), a one-act ballet that confronts today’s social and political climate. “Woke” employs the music of Kendrick Lamar, Logic, Drake, and others, exploring the challenges of our time and inviting reflection on society’s evolving consciousness.
In addition to “Woke,” Complexions will perform “For Crying Out Loud” featuring the music of U2’s Songs of Surrender, an album of acoustic renditions of the band’s popular songs. The piece unfolds in an interconnected “wandering narrative.”
These performances are just a glimpse into the power of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, true pioneers in the world of dance. Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “matchless American dance company” and hailed by The Guardian for “forging a path for what ballet can be instead of what it historically has been,” Complexions Contemporary Ballet has earned a reputation for revolutionizing the art form with a diverse company of 16 dancers who bring the company’s rich Alvin Ailey lineage to life.

Founded by Rhoden and Richardson in 1994, Complexions Contemporary Ballet has transformed the dance world with its innovative choreography and commitment to diversity. Known for its groundbreaking fusion of styles and genres, the company continues to inspire audiences with performances that celebrate the strength, creativity, and humanity of its dancers.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet is recommended for all ages. Tickets range from $25 to $55. Ages 13 to 22 can enjoy $5 tickets through Culture Shock Miami. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Moss Center Box Office in person, on the Moss Center website, or calling (786) 573-5300.
