June is filled with many meaningful observances that reflect our community. We are honored to recognize and celebrate with you during this special month.
This June, we proudly celebrate Pride Month, honoring the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and beyond. We also commemorate Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, reflecting on freedom, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward equality.
Caribbean-American Heritage Month allows us to celebrate the vibrant cultures, traditions, and business innovations that our Caribbean-American entrepreneurs bring to the county’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Finally, Men’s Health Month, emphasizes on the importance of wellness in entrepreneurship.
To the men leading small business we encourage you to take care of your physical and mental health as this is essential for business success.
June also marks the beginning of hurricane season, and as entrepreneurs, we know the importance of being prepared. Here are three essential steps you can take to protect your business:
1. Create a Comprehensive Business Continuity Plan: Document your critical business processes, identify key suppliers and contacts, and establish alternative work locations. Include employee contact information and communication protocols for before, during, and after a storm.
2. Confirm funds and Insurance Policy: Ensure you have access to emergency funds and review your insurance coverage to understand what’s protected.
3. Prepare Your Physical Space: Take inventory of your equipment and supplies, secure or relocate valuable items, and know how to safely shut down utilities. Create an emergency supply kit for your business location with essentials like flashlights, batteries, and first aid supplies.
With students now on summer break, we encourage our entrepreneurs and community members to embrace this season of connection. Some of the best business ideas are born during moments of relaxation and family conversations.
