Karen Peterson and Dancers has announced it is the recipient of an FY 2026 grant award of $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. This funding will support the Eighth Edition of The Forward Motion Dance Festival, May 8 and 9, 2027, at the Sandrell Rivers Theatre, 6103 NW Seventh Ave.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support opportunities across the country for Americans to experience and participate in the arts,” said Mary Anne Carter, chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. “As we celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary this year, it is a moment to recognize the important role the arts continue to play in our lives, communities, and heritage.”
The Eighth Annual Forward Motion Dance Festival will feature The Resident Island Dance Theatre from Taipei, Taiwan; Dancing Wheels from Cleveland, OH, and Karen Peterson and Dancers from Miami.
“I am pleased to showcase top inclusive choreography from around the globe, including works from Taiwan, Ohio and Florida,” said Karen Peterson Corash, founder and artistic director. “The continued support from the NEA has been instrumental in the success of Forward Motion since its launch in 2018.”

Auditions scheduled
Karen Peterson and Dancers, a mixed-ability dance company, is hiring individuals with and without disabilities and has scheduled auditions for the 2026-27 season. Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13, at noon, in the Karen Peterson and Dancers home at 11760 SW 72 Ave., Pinecrest, FL 33156.
Being a member of the company offers paid rehearsals and performances as well as teaching opportunities in Miami-Dade schools.
