Lady Bobcats Basketball Head Coach Cody McKeon says his teams are off to a good start and players are hopeful to earn berths in the state championship tournament.

The Lady Bobcats are a traveling club comprised of more than 30 girls who attend several Miami-area high schools including Lourdes Academy, Gulliver Academy, Palmetto Senior High School, Riviera Prep and Killian Senior High School. There are four Lady Bobcats teams for ages ranging from grades 6-8, grade 9, grade 10 and grade 11.

The club basketball season runs from January to July. Most Lady Bobcat players also compete on their school teams during the regular fall basketball season.

“Lady Bobcats is a great opportunity for girls to train and play tournaments in the tri-county area during the off-season,” explains McKeon. “The goal is to build their skills, get plenty of game time and to develop camaraderie. The girls really enjoy the opportunity to travel to different cities and play other teams.”

McKeon has been head coach of the Lady Bobcats club team since 2010 and also coaches the Lourdes Academy junior varsity team during the fall. He learned the ropes from his father, Christopher McKeon, who has coached the Lourdes Academy varsity basketball team for 22 years. Lady Bobcats standouts include shooting guard Ana Sophia Sanchez and forwards Isa Perez and Sophie Llevat.

“So far, the Lady Bobcats are very competitive and we have depth of talent,” says McKeon. “I like what I’m seeing from the girls in practice and during games. If we keep the momentum going, we have a shot at qualifying for the U.S. Specialty Sports Association state tournament in July, and possibly the national tournament as well.”
