During the week of Nov. 7, Dr. Charles F. Mahl traveled to Mexico with five other doctors on a mission trip.
During the course of this trip Dr. Mahl completed some 600 prolotherapy treatments to underprivileged, hardworking patients who otherwise would not be able to afford this procedure. These patients suffer from chronic joint pain, making every day activity difficult.
Prolotherapy is a highly effective alternative treatment to the traditional treatment of surgery. It works by stimulating the body’s own natural healing processes to repair injured ligaments and tendons to lay down new, strong collagen fibers and cells.
The previously damaged tissue goes through the same healing cascade as when first injured and now prompts healing in the ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. It is 80 percent or more effective in curing pain caused by damaged, unhealed connective-tissue and returning the structure to full load bearing capacity.
“The look on these patients faces after I have preformed prolotherapy on them is reward enough for me,” Dr. Mahl said. “Those looks give me validation of knowing what I do for people changes their lives.”
Dr. Mahl also has taken part in other missions as well, most notably in Quito, Ecuador. There he also provided these treatments to hundreds of people.
Not only is Dr. Mahl performing treatments while on his mission, he also is providing instructional training to both Mexican and American doctors from all regions of these respective countries. The goal here is to correctly train the doctors so that they themselves can offer this treatment to their own patients.
If you are a Licensed Medical Doctor and are interested in learning this technique, Dr. Mahl will be giving a weekend-long course on prolotherapy in Coral Gables at the end of February. Contact GenLife Regenerative Medicine at 305-332-7234 or (toll free) 1-844-859-7788 for more details.
