The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) recently released district and state results from the Spring 2025 administration of the statewide assessments designed to measure the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (BEST).
These assessments include the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) for Grades 3 through 10 in English Language Arts (ELA) Reading, Grades 3 through 8 in Mathematics, and Grades 4 through 10 BEST Writing. The Mathematics End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in Algebra 1 and Geometry, as well as the Science (Biology 1) and Social Studies (Civics and United States U.S. History) EOC assessments and the Statewide Science Assessment in Grades 5 and 8 test scores also were released.
“These outstanding 2025 state assessment results highlight our sustained trajectory of excellence, a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff,” said Dr. Jose L. Dotres, superintendent of schools. “We are immensely proud of their consistent performance and growth across all subjects.”
Following are key findings from the Spring 2025 test administrations. It is important to note that these results represent the full scope of tested students, including those whose scores may not be reflected in school accountability calculations due to specific participation or inclusion criteria.
• M-DCPS students matched or demonstrated higher percentages of students scoring on grade level or above in the FAST ELA Reading assessments when compared to the state across all grade levels.
* There were improvements in the percentage of M DCPS students scoring in Levels 3–5 on the FAST ELA Reading at all grade levels, showing growth compared to the results from 2024 to 2025.
* Students in M-DCPS demonstrated growth in Levels 3-5 across all grade levels, outperforming their state counterparts in grades 3, 4, 5 and 8 compared to the previous year.
• M-DCPS students demonstrated higher percentages of students scoring on grade level or above in the FAST Mathematics when compared to the State across all grade levels.
* There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoring in Levels 3-5 on the FAST Mathematics at all grade levels, showing growth compared to the results from 2024 to 2025.
* Students in M-DCPS demonstrated growth in Levels3-5 across all grade levels, outperforming their state counterparts in grades 3, 4, 5, and 7 compared to the previous year.
• M-DCPS students excelled in the BEST End-of-Course (EOC) exams for Algebra 1 and Geometry, surpassing the state in the percentage of students scoring on grade level or above in Spring 2025.
* M-DCPS demonstrated growth in the percentage of students scoring at Levels 3 and above on the Algebra 1 and Geometry EOCs from 2024 to 2025.
• M-DCPS students excelled in science, with a higher percentage of M-DCPS students in Grade 5 and Biology scoring in Levels 3 and above as compared to the state.
* A higher percentage of M-DCPS students in Grade 5, Grade 8, and Biology scored in Levels 3 and above in 2025 as compared to the previous year.
* The gains made by M-DCPS students in science from 2024 to 2025 met or exceeded those of the state, with notable increases in percentages for Grade 5, Grade 8, and the Biology EOC.
• M-DCPS students excelled in social studies assessments, with a higher percentage of students scoring at or above grade level on both the Civics and U.S. History EOC exams compared to the state.
* There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoringin Levels 3-5 on the Civics and U.S. History EOC exams, showing growth compared to the results from 2024 to 2025.
