Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus will welcome back its ever-popular Arts and Letters, for its 26th consecutive year, Mar. 29-Apr. 4, celebrating this year’s theme of invisible voices. All events are open free to the public.
Arts and Letters is the forum for both the abstract and the concrete. Throughout the week, ideas will spring forth from the creative minds of professional artists and performers, including faculty and students. The ideas will manifest through art, music, literature, film, science, history, and performance with events for everyone.
Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the talent of individuals working together to produce new and unique works and to participate in hands-on activities.
The featured keynote speakers are Zorina Frey, spoken word artist, and Chris Del Vesco, *RAINN speaker and author, who will visit the campus on Apr. 3 for a presentation and meet and greet opportunity.

Tuesday, Apr. 3:
11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Suicide Prevention Awareness,
Room K-413 — After watching two brief videos about suicide prevention, including a survivor story, students will actively participate in identifying and evaluating potential realistic action plans to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Silent No More, McCarthy Auditorium, Room 6120 — Are you ready to experience the freedom of raising your “voice” through high energy expressions of spoken word performance, improvisation, and music? Come hear the strong “voices” of Zorina Frey and Chris Del Vesco. Chris will empower you with tools, tips, and tricks to liberate your voice and learn to be “silent no more”! *RAINN – www.rainn.org.
Wednesday, Apr. 4:
12:15-12:45 p.m., Fight Like a Girl, Room K-413 — In this short documentary by filmmaker Agustin Gonzalez, three South Florida women push through the male dominated competitive video gaming scene. Fight Like a Girl is a celebration of women in this field and an evaluation of the problems they face.
1-2:15 p.m., Silent Voices: The Hidden Lives of Children, Room R 402/403 — Poet and University of Miami creative writing professor Mia Leonin reads from Fable of the Pack-Saddle Child, an illustrated, book-length poem steeped in the world of Micaela, a 10-year-old, who uses her imagination to overcome a traumatic experience. The session will include a bookmaking workshop by visual artist Nereida García Ferraz.
