MDC Kendall president named to board of WK Baptist Hospital

West Kendall Baptist Hospital has named Miami Dade College (MDC) Kendall Campus president Dr. Armando Ferrer to its board of directors. Dr. Ferrer has served MDC for 36 years in various capacities, including dean of students at North and Kendall campuses. Appointed president of the Kendall Campus in 2009, Dr. Ferrer provides leadership and direction to more than 5,000 full- and part-time employees who serve more than 72,000 credit and non-credit students.

The seasoned educator is an active member of the State of Florida Council of Student Affairs, Florida Association of Community Colleges, American Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and was awarded a Kellogg Fellowship in Expanding Leadership Diversity. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Ferrer is actively involved in community activities where he works in partnership with community organizations, such as the Kendall Business Association and Chamber South, to organize job fairs and family-oriented programs.

“I am sure Dr. Ferrer will find the experience of serving this wonderful institution as rewarding as it has been for me,” said Tony Alonso, a current board member at Baptist Health South Florida. “I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

Scheduled to open in the spring of 2011, West Kendall Baptist Hospital will be a teaching hospital with surgical, emergency, maternity and diagnostic units. The hospital represents the first completely new, nonreplacement hospital built in Miami-Dade County in more than 35 years.
