MDX Expressways Critical to First Responders & Utility Crew Restoration Efforts

mdx_img-1

The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) has been clearing debris and assessing the condition of its five expressways. Hurricane debris has been cleared from the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836), the Airport Expressway (SR 112) and the Gratigny Expressway (SR 924).

MDX crews and contractors are still clearing hurricane debris from the Don Shula Expressway (SR 874) and the Snapper Creek Expressway (SR 878) in Kendall, but they are both open to traffic.

MDX’s five expressways are crucial to emergency responders and to crews trying to restore our utility network.  The expressway system is probably the safest mode to bypass downed power lines, flooded streets, hurricane debris, and non-functioning signalized intersections.

Please stay off the streets unless absolutely necessary.  Power outages have impacted lighting on our expressways, so if you do need to drive on any expressway after sunset, please drive slowly and cautiously for the safety of our work crews and our emergency responders.
