With the summer vacation break coming to a close, parents will begin preparing their children for the new school year and getting back to a regular routine.

In addition to getting back to the scholastic swing of things, regular “outdoor physical fitness time” is important to keep kids healthy and fit for the classroom and life.

Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces offers the popular Fit2Play after-school program to help children embrace a healthier lifestyle and become better-focused students. Children will enjoy fun, full-supervised activities focused on fitness, nutrition and wellness, as well as grow their appreciation of nature, science and the cultural arts.
Registration began Aug. 2, and parents are encouraged to register their child as early as possible, as enrollments spots fill quickly.

Fit2Play will be conducted Aug. 23, 2021, through June 8, 2022, at 28 Miami-Dade parks, Monday through Friday, from 2 to 6 p.m., throughout the school year and winter/spring vacation breaks.

Developed in 2009, Fit2Play offers a grounded after-school curriculum for youth, ages 6-14, intended to improve obesity through active physical recreation and nutrition education. The program includes fun recreation games, lifetime sports (QuickStart tennis and SNAG golf) and nature-based conservation education.

Children have opportunities to acquire and practice social emotional skills in recreation activities and workshops that promote social, emotional, and physical health, and foster long-term academic and positive behavior trajectories.

The cost is $25 per week, plus a $15 non-refundable registration fee for all sites including TCT locations. An additional $11 weekly transportation fee will apply if your child is being picked up from an authorized school. A fee reduction is available for eligible applicants. Pick up a fee reduction application from your local park. A discounted fee is available for siblings at the same park.
