Miami-Dade Fire Rescue holds first Recruitment Open House

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) held its first Recruitment Open House on Saturday, July 26, at MDFR Station 2, located at 6460 NW 27 Ave., Miami, FL 33147.

Interested applicants came to learn what it takes to become a firefighter with one of the most respected fire departments in the country.

Whether exploring their options or ready to apply, the open house provided an opportunity for members of the community to learn more about a rewarding career in the fire service.

The engaging, hands-on event offered an inside look at firehouse life, firefighter training, and the skills needed to succeed.

Attendees had the chance to:
• Meet community firefighters and ask questions;
• Connect with recruitment staff;
• Tour the fire station;
• Participate in a bunker gear and hose management exercise;
• Try a victim rescue simulation using a weighted manikin;
• Simulate breaching using training props;
• Watch CPR demonstrations and try hands-on EMS tasks, and
• Explore tools, equipment, and technical rescue apparatus.
MDFR is accepting applications for the firefighter position until Aug. 11. Interested applicants can apply online at www.miamidade.gov/jobs.

The minimum qualifications to apply are to be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid driver’s license.
