Miami-Dade offering college-bound students educational scholarships

Now through Apr. 12, the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is accepting applications for educational scholarships through the Family and Community Services Division and Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS).

“These scholarships are a win-win-win-win for our youth, our community, and our economy – because investing in education today is investing in our future,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “We are committed to supporting our future leaders, and programs like these are a testament to that commitment.”

Community Advisory Committees (CACs) Scholarships
CAHSD is offering 16 scholarship awards totaling $2,500 through its Family and Community Services Division (FCSD). For 38 years, FCSD has been awarding scholarships to assist low-income college students achieve their educational goals.

To qualify, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• 16 to 25 years old;
• Enrolled in or attending a college or vocational institution this fall, and must have a minimum 2.0 GPA;
• Reside within the boundaries of any of the 16 target areas represented by a Community Advisory Committee: Allapattah, Brownsville, Coconut Grove, Culmer, Edison/Little River, Florida City, Goulds, Hialeah, Liberty City, Little Havana, Naranja, Opa-locka, Perrine, South Beach, South Miami and Wynwood;
• Have an annual household income that does not exceed 200 percent of the Community Service Block Grant Poverty Income Guidelines, and
• Submit financial documentation, community service hours, employment history and an essay.

Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) Scholarships
CAHSD, through ONS, is offering 50 college scholarships totaling $1,500 to eligible students residing in Miami-Dade County. To be eligible for the ONS scholarships, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• 16 to 25 years old;
• Enrolled in or attending a college or vocational institution in the fall with a minimum 2.0 GPA;
• Reside in Miami-Dade County, and
• Submit financial documentation and an essay.
