Miami-Dade Property Appraiser’s Office mails exemption information to property owners

Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia recently mailed out important exemption information to property owners in Miami-Dade County.

The mailings and approximate quantities for each include: 405,000 Automatic Homestead Exemption Renewals and 16,000 Homestead Exemption Applications to new homeowners.

Property owners are encouraged to read their renewal receipts and fraud flyer carefully to ensure that they still qualify for their exemption(s). If the property owners are still eligible in 2018, they do not need to do anything; they should keep the document for their records.

However, if they no longer qualify for their exemption(s), they should sign the cancellation portion of the receipt and return it to the Property Appraiser’s Office at 111 NW First St., Suite 710, Miami, FL 33128 by Mar. 1.

Florida law requires property owners to notify the Property Appraiser when they no longer qualify for an exemption. Property owners who have questions or concerns about their exemption(s) status can visit the Propertyt Appraiser’s website at www.miamidade.gov/pa/ or offices in Downtown Miami (111 NW First Street, Seventh Floor) and the South Dade Government Center (10710 SW 211 St., Second Floor), Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additionally, in an effort to assist homeowners, the Property Appraiser’s Office will host multiple weekend and evening outreach events around the county.

Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.:
Jan. 20 at Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia St.;
Feb. 3 at Milander Center, 4800 Palm Ave., Hialeah;
Feb. 10 at West Dade Regional Library, 9445 Coral Way;
Feb. 24 at South Dade Government Center (Second Floor), 10710 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay, and
Feb. 24 at McDonald Center, 17051 NE 19 Ave., North Miami Beach.
Outreach events, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

Jan. 16 at West Dade Regional Library, 9445 Coral Way, and Feb. 22 at Miami Beach Regional Library, 227 22 St., Miami Beach.
