Board vice chair Monica Colucci, during the Miami-Dade County School Board meeting of June 18, proffered agenda item B-8, recognizing Carlos Delahoz.
Delahoz, an alumnus of Miami Coral Park Senior High School, has devoted over 35 years to serving his alma mater and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. His varied assignments have included that of a teacher, athletic director, coach and class sponsor, in addition to being an integral part of shaping the school’s culture of academic and extracurricular excellence.
During his coaching tenure, he led the wrestling team to two state runner-up finishes and his teams also earned two Greater Miami Athletic Conference titles in badminton. He played a key role in reviving and sustaining various extracurricular and academic initiatives that have brought accolades and recognition to the school.
Delahoz is the driving force behind the nationally acclaimed Engineering and Robotics Magnet at Miami Coral Park, a program recognized for its excellence at the local, state, national, and international levels. Under his visionary leadership, the program has become a powerhouse in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, earning prestigious accolades across multiple competitive arenas.
His students have achieved top rankings in FIRST and VEX Robotics Competitions, secured three national championships in Ten80 Education RC Racing, and captured a national title in the ACE Mentorship CIRT Design Competition. In 2024, the Miami Herald named the program’s Ramtech59 Robotics Summer Camp “Miami’s Best.”
Delahoz’s contributions have earned him multiple recognitions throughout his career, including being named a Magnet Schools of America Region III Teacher of the Year nominee in 2024. His dedication has been acknowledged through numerous district awards for innovation in STEM education, and he has been a featured speaker at national STEM and Career and Technical Education conferences.
His impact extends far beyond the classroom. Many of his former students have gone on to attend elite institutions such as MIT, Duke, Columbia, and Georgia Tech, and now contribute to cutting-edge industries such as Boeing, Meta, NASA, and NASCAR.
