Miami native completes successful assignment aboard USS ConstitutionU.S. Navy Command Master Chief Jans Valdespou, a Miami native, bid farewell to the officers and crew on Jan 26 after completing a successful one-year tour aboard USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship afloat. Duty aboard USS Constitution, based in Boston, is one of the Navy’s special programs, and all prospective crewmembers must meet a high standard of sustained excellence and interview to be selected for the assignment. Valdepsou has served in the Navy for 25 years, and his previous duty stations include USS Elrod (FFG 55), USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), USS Anzio (CG 68), USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), and a tour as a Recruit Division Commander at Recruit Training Command.
