Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) has announced the appointment of Michael Berman to the board of directors of Masada Homecare, a subsidiary of JCS dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate in-home support for older adults across Miami-Dade community.
Berman was the co-founder and president of CW Capital, leading the growth of this national multifamily lender from $30 million per year to $4 billion per year. Most recently, he served as CEO and board member of M&T Realty Capital Corporation (a subsidiary of M&T Bank) where he played a key strategic role in shaping the organization’s vision for growth and overseeing national lending and loan servicing operations.
A seasoned leader in commercial real estate finance, he supported the expansion of M&T Bank’s commercial real estate platform, including taking the lead role in the formation and growth of its affordable housing platform. In addition, Berman served as senior advisor to HUD Cabinet Secretary Shaun Donovan. He also served as chair of the board of the national Mortgage Bankers Association, where he led a change in the strategic direction of one of the leading trade associations in the U.S.
He has testified before the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. He also served as a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies as well as Wharton’s Penn Institute for Urban Research.
Berman holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University.
