In an effort to bring employers and job seekers together, Miami-Dade Commission Vice Chair Lynda Bell hosted the First Annual South Dade Community Job Fair on Wednesday, June 5, at the Homestead Campus of Miami-Dade College.

More than 1,000 job seekers met with over 90 prospective employers ranging from small businesses to medium and large corporations as well as state and federal agencies that are looking for just the right candidates to fill vacancies in their respective private and public sector entities.

Employers included companies such as Macy’s, JP Morgan Chase, Seaboard Marine, and Disney as well as federal partners like GSA, FBI and the U.S. Secret Service.

“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to host this job fair for our residents who have been struggling so long without employment. Now that the economy is slowly improving, residents can finally get a real sense of what employers have to offer and be able to submit their resumes for consideration to these respected organizations and institutions.” Bell said.

The South Dade Job Fair was conducted in partnership with the Miami-Dade College Homestead Campus, in an effort to link respected, county-wide employers with local residents.

The Job Fair also offered job workshops to job seekers wanting to enhance their marketability, including: “Reinventing your Resume,” “The Ultimate Interview Review,” and, finally, “Dressing the Part.”

“With the tremendous success of this year’s Job Fair, I am looking forward to hosting similar events every year to help our residents reconnect with the workforce and revitalize our local economy,” Bell added.
