2020 undoubtedly was a devastating time for the restaurant and hospitality business in South Florida. With that, 2021 has seen positive news of emerging concepts and new restaurants opening.

One of South Florida’s original food trucks, King of Racks, has announced the opening of its first brick and mortar location in April. The new restaurant is located at 15516 SW 72 St. (Sunset Drive), Miami, Florida 33193. With indoor and outdoor seating, they will open Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Mondays.

When the food truck scene started in Miami, there were a handful of trucks. These initial concept trucks were easy to recognize. They would frequent specific locations where those wanting to enjoy some delicious fare served in the most casual manner, could do so, on the street.

Anthony Garcia and his father Ralph Garcia were cooking together since Anthony was a young boy along with Ralph’s parents. As the years went on, the recipes became a combination of the duo’s favorite flavors, original marinades, and rubs. Many recipes the result of items they had tried during travels and were inspired by as well as those created with Anthony’s kids.

King of Racks emerged on the Miami food-scene in 2013. What started as a lifelong tradition between a father and son quickly became a business, and a popular one. With the popularity of the truck and its offerings, Anthony’s mother Cecilia Garcia joined and since then King of Racks became recognized as a go-to spot for great barbecue. This family business had rapidly built a very loyal following.

In 2018 they set up shop at a new 40,000-square-foot event venue known today as The Wharf Miami, where King of Racks held a permanent residency for years as well as curating the food truck program since its inception. Before no time, thousands had enjoyed signature dishes such as their Brisket, Rib Platter and Smoked Chicken. With The Wharf hosting some of Miami’s largest events, King of Racks catered hundreds of corporate events, festivals, charitable functions and started doing so offsite.

We couldn’t be happier to open the doors of our first restaurant,” said Anthony Garcia, proprietor of King of Racks. “It has been a goal of mine as well as my family to evolve to this point, where we can host those who love great food, live music and in a safe environment. We cannot wait to see you come out and ‘get your grub on.’ Thank everyone who has supported us through the years.”

Food lovers rejoice. King of Racks will offer their signature items as well as new favorites such as “The BAM” burger, a 7-ounce patty, choice of cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, fried egg, 1 RIB ON TOP, garnished with chives. The HAVANA (burger) features a 7-ounce patty, swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion, avocado, fried egg, and a CHEESE CROQUETA, garnished with chives. The restaurant also will offer some unique twists on other faves to include brick oven signature pizzas, and some freshly made sandwiches.

Want to get your drink on? They will have a fill-liquor license to wet that palate.

King of Racks is located at 15516 SW 72 St., in West Kendall. With indoor and outdoor seating, the location will be open from Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Mondays.
