Pinecrest stands as Miami-Dade County’s environmental sustainability leader, offering residents multiple ways to get involved, learn, and save money during Earth Month this April. These eco-friendly initiatives not only protect the environment but contribute to the Village’s strategic priority of improving the well-being of the community.
Earth Month Farmer’s Market Pop-Up
Saturday, April 13 | 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Pinecrest Gardens

The weekly Farmers Market includes an environmental showcase featuring Pinecrest’s sustainability programs. Residents can discover how the free composting program has already diverted 90,000+ pounds of food waste from landfills, reducing both methane emissions and waste management costs. They can also learn about the new Everglades Earth Cycle project, in partnership with the Miccosukee Tribe, which will help restore vital soils and protect our waterways.
Beautiful blooms from the Floating Flower Islands project will be available for purchase. These flowers serve double-duty – filtering pollutants from local waterways before being harvested for your home. Every purchase helps expand this innovative water quality initiative while beautifying your space.
Composting 101
Saturday, April 19 | 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Pinecrest Gardens
Dr. Lanette Sobel from Fertile Earth Worm Farm leads this free hands-on workshop perfect for beginners and experienced composters alike. Participants will learn to create effective home composting systems, troubleshoot common challenges, and use finished compost to enrich gardens – reducing the need for purchased fertilizers and helping homes grow healthier plants.
Space is limited; early registration recommended. Last year’s workshop reached capacity quickly.
Polish Pinecrest Village-Wide Cleanup
Saturday, April 19 | 8:00 a.m. – noon
Residents can grab special orange trash bags to clean designated areas around the Village. Once filled, simply return bags to Evelyn Greer Park for proper disposal. This community effort prevents litter from entering waterways while maintaining property values through neighborhood beautification.
