Reached $5,000 goal to get mammograms to those in need

Zumba Fitness and Scala Inc. 4 Braces raised $5,000 with its appreciation reunion “Pink Gala” benefiting the Florida International University Linda Fenner 3D Mobile Mammography Center (LFMMC).

The LFMMC offers free breast health screening, health education, and navigation services for women without access to care in Miami-Dade County. It provides services in collaboration with organizations, including the health department, federally qualified health centers, cancer support and advocacy groups, places of worship, and shelters for people experiencing homelessness. Together with community partners, it aims to make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer and reduce breast cancer in South Florida.

The annual event to raise awareness for breast cancer started 10 years ago when Claudia Scala teamed up with the InterContinental at Doral Miami in memory of her friends Carla Braga and Carolyn Velez. This year, under the leadership of General Manager, Randal Pasut, the InterContinental at Doral is playing a key role in supporting LFMMC and the Pink Gala by creating awareness and supporting the effort to find a cure for breast cancer. Over the past ten years, the InterContinental at Doral Miami has raised more than $300,000 for breast cancer awareness and find a cure.

Since the InterContinental at Doral Miami was built in 2000, the ownership has been committed to giving back to the community. “We are honored to be doing our part with our annual campaign help in the fight against breast cancer and to help give women the treatment and preventive care they need,” said Randal Pasut, General Manager of InterContinental at Doral Miami.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In the United States, one case of breast cancer is diagnosed every two minutes, and one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. A lack of health insurance and living in lower-income areas are both associated with lower survival rates among breast cancer patients, as well as the presence of other illnesses, unequal access to care and disparities in treatment.

“Through the monies raised and the Pink Gala event we are able to touch many lives that need our help physically but also mentally,” said Claudia Scala, founder of Scala Inc. 4 Braces 10th Annual Reunion Pink Gala.
