Honored as Officers of the Month and receiving citations from Hammocks CAC chair James Blough (far left) are (l-r) Det. Roberto Palmer, Det. Daniel Fonticiella, Sgt. Edward Bermudez, Det. Franco Cugge and Det. William Lopez.

Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District detectives successfully recovered a $15,000 stolen Jeep and a .22 caliber revolver in July following an enforcement sweep centered on burglary and robbery suspects.
For their outstanding service, five members of the force received citations from Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) chair James Blough during the district’s Aug. 25 CAC meeting.
Assigned to the sweep, Det. Daniel Fonticiella was tipped to a known “Satan Disciple” gang member seen driving in a stolen Jeep Liberty and in possession of a firearm.
Knowing the potential severity of the situation, Det. Fonticiella radioed and received backup support from Det. Robert Palmer, Sgt. Edward Bermudez, Det. Franco Cugge and Det. William Lopez.
While Sgt. Bermudez coordinated a search that located the vehicle at Banyan Tree apartments in West Kendall, and with his backup team identified the suspect as a “known member” of the Satan Disciple gang, according to the police who recovered a stolen flat screen television in addition to the vehicle and revolver.
“Quick action and teamwork closed a burglary case and took a gun off the streets,” said Maj. Alexander D. Casas, district commander, who recommended the award.
Kendall District officerhonored for mall arrest
Miami-Dade Police Kendall District Officer Adrian Ulmer’s suspicions during a routine patrol at The Falls led to the arrest of two wanted Colombian nationals and resulted in June Officer of the Month honors from the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) presented during its Aug. 25 meeting.
On Feb. 21, after establishing liaison with mall security at The Falls Shopping Center, Ulmer located a vehicle parked in front of the Bloomingdale’s and became suspicious that its occupants were casing parked cars.
Spotting two sets of black gloves and a mask, Ulmer stopped the pair and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia hidden in a visor. Further search revealed a switchblade knife and center punch under the car’s floor mat.
Later identified as Colombian nationals living in Texas and driving a rental car, investigation revealed that one subject had a Federal warrant for robbery issued in Texas and both subjects had been captured previously by store video at a Best Buy in the Dadeland Station Mall following customers out of the store as potential vehicle burglary victims.
For his high initiative to prevent a potentially dangerous crime, Ulmer was awarded the CAC’s monthly citation by chair Barry White and Maj. Michael Herrera, Kendall District commander.
