During this summer, we remind families that they are an integral part of their children’s education. Now, more than ever, families are the key to motivating and stimulating academic interest in their children.
The Parent Academy (TPA) is one of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ greatest sources to access information and vital resources for families. Its mission is to motivate parents and encourage them to become active partners in their children’s education. The main goals of the department are to educate, engage, empower and encourage families to reach their full potential.
For the third consecutive year, TPA is launching a series of virtual educational sessions in July as part of Synergy 2022 to prepare families and caregivers for a successful school year. Synergy, now in its ninth year, is an annual premier professional development event where school staff prepares for the coming school year. Once again, TPA has produced material to provide parents, caregivers and educational leaders with valuable content on various topics to help children succeed in school, mitigate learning gaps, address physical and social emotional needs, and support families.
This year’s theme, “Connect305,” is appropriate considering our roles as parents, educators and partners in the education of our children. Registration for the online pre-recorded webinars and resources opened July 1. Sixteen webinars are available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole on a variety of topics including parent-teacher conferences, college planning, homework help, bullying, online safety, test anxiety, and helping children focus.
Additionally, printable tip sheets are accessible under the “Resources” tab. These will provide dozens of links covering topics that will help families prepare for the coming school year.
