Riviera Preparatory School has announced that its PLTW Biomedical Engineering teacher, Janet Mantecon, has accepted a position on the NASSP Student Leadership Advisory Committee as a board member.

She is one of only three teachers in the country chosen to serve a two-year term with NASSP as part of the advisory board. Other board members include three principals, and three students also chosen from across the nation.

NASSP is the governing body for all honor societies and student government nationwide. The purpose of the NASSP Student Leadership Advisory Committee is to ensure that NASSP student programs (National Association of Student Councils, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, and National Elementary Honor Society) provide programs, services, and resources to members that promote student leadership, voice service, and engagement in alignment with the mission and vision of NASSP.

Riviera Schools’ associate director Peter Cohen said he was proud of Mantecon’s accomplishments adding, “her commitment and dedication to our students on campus will not be interrupted by her responsibilities; rather, the combination of Ms. Mantecon’s leading-edge teaching methods will only be enhanced by the interface with other top-tier educators in our nation.”
