Miami-Dade School Board Member Monica Colucci was elected as the 48th president of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Board of Directors during the board’s orientation and organizational meeting on Sept. 24.

Colucci is the first female school board member, and the second woman in the history of the organization, to serve as president of the FHSAA Board of Directors, the governing body endowed with the executive authority of the association. The board is composed of 13 individuals either elected by membership or appointed by the governor of Florida and confirmed by the Florida Senate.

The FHSAA Board of Directors elects its president and president-elect annually. The FHSAA is a non-profit, voluntary organization designated by the Florida Legislature to promote, direct, supervise, and regulate interscholastic programs among member high schools in the State of Florida.

Colucci was appointed to the FHSAA Board of Directors in August. A School Board member, representing District 8, she is a veteran teacher with 26 years of experience in the field of education, serving in a variety of positions in the public and private sectors. On the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) School Board, Colucci serves as vice chair of the Academics, Innovation, Evaluation, and Technology Committee. She also is a member of the board of directors for WLRN and the Education Fund.

“It is a great honor for me to serve as president of the FHSAA Board of Directors. I am humbled and grateful to my colleagues on the Board of Directors for entrusting me with the responsibility to lead the association,” Colucci said. “I look forward to working together for the wellbeing and success of all students in the State of Florida, particularly our student-athletes, their families, and their communities.”
