Miami-Dade County School Board member Mary Blanco, District 7, hosted an engaging and informative Town Hall Meeting on “The Power of Wellness in Learning” on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Miami Southridge Senior High School.
The event brought together parents, students, educators and community leaders for a collaborative discussion on the vital connection between mental and physical well-being and its impact on student success.
The program featured insightful presentations from distinguished guest speakers. Omar Babun, life coach and counselor, gave a presentation on the importance of nurturing the whole child to promote both academic achievement and personal development. Following Babun’s presentation, Luis Diaz, chief operating officer; Miriam Stewart, assistant superintendent of Student Services, and Barbara Mendizabal, assistant superintendent of Family and Community Engagement, expanded on the message, highlighting the district’s ongoing initiatives to support student wellness, family engagement, and community partnerships.
The highlight of the evening was a special recognition ceremony in which Blanco honored outstanding students from across District 7 for their academic excellence, leadership and exemplary citizenship.
The evening was further enriched by dynamic student performances and presentations from several groups, including the Miami Southridge Senior High School Cheerleaders, Future Stars Dance Team, Miami Southridge JROTC, Miami Southridge Police Explorers, and the Robert Morgan Senior High School Choir.
“Connecting with our community on vital topics like student wellness is essential to fostering an environment where every child can succeed,” said Ms. Blanco. “I am deeply grateful to our expert guest speakers, dedicated staff, and talented students for making this evening such a resounding success. It was a true celebration of our community’s shared commitment to our children’s future.”
Blanco extended her sincere appreciation to the South Region Office, district staff, principal Humberto Miret, and the entire Miami Southridge Senior High School team for their invaluable support in organizing and hosting the event.
