Miami-Dade School Board vice chair Monica Colucci, District 8, on Oct. 15, hosted a Town Hall meeting at Felix Varela Senior High School, bringing together parents, students, educators, and community members for an evening of open dialogue and celebration.

The event featured a roundtable discussion on school safety, academic achievement, and community collaboration, with participation from Dr. Jose L. Dotres, superintendent of schools; Brenda Swain, region superintendent, Central Region Office; Rafael Villalobos, region superintendent, South Region Office, and Chief Ivan Silva, Miami Dade Schools Police Department.

The evening began with a Presentation of Colors by the G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School JROTC, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mariana Rodriguez from Felix Varela Senior High School, and the National Anthem performed by Isabella Martinez of Miami Arts Studio 6-12 @ Zelda Glazer.

Following the roundtable, Colucci presented certificates of recognition to students from schools across District 8 for their academic excellence and citizenship, celebrating their hard work, leadership, and dedication to their school communities.

“Tonight’s Town Hall was a wonderful opportunity to connect with families, educators, and students who are deeply invested in the success of our schools,” Colucci said. “By working together and maintaining open communication, we can continue to strengthen school safety, celebrate student achievement, and ensure that every child has access to a high-quality education.”

Vice Chair Colucci extended her gratitude to Principal Adrian Sanchez and the Felix Varela Senior High School team for hosting the event, and to all community members who attended and participated in this meaningful evening of engagement and recognition. She also thanked the Central and South Region offices and the District 8 staff for their partnership and support in making the event a success.
