The Miami-Dade County Library System is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month during September and is encouraging South Florida residents to sign up for a free card if they don’t already have one or renew any expired cards to take advantage of all the things that are available at their local library.
If you have a library card you can access an expansive collection of books, eBooks and audiobooks, stream movies and music, read online newspapers and magazines, borrow internet-enabled devices, check out museum passes for admission to area museums and much more — all for free.
You can get a library card by visiting any library location or you can apply for an eCard online and get immediate access to the system’s online library. Go to https://www1.mdpls.org/webservices/ecard/Account/Register.
Toys, too.
A new program available at the library for those who have small children is the Borrow a Toy Kit option that’s a collaboration between Play It Forward South Florida and the Miami-Dade Public Library System. This allows parents to borrow curated toy kits designed to enhance their children’s development through play and music.
Choose from building blocks, musical instruments, sensory-friendly toys and more in a variety of age ranges, up to age 9. Parents can request up to three kits to be placed on hold and delivered to their preferred library location for pickup. Each kit may be borrowed for up to 30 days. Kits can be conveniently returned to any library location.
Age groups are for ages 2 and under, 3 to 6 and 7 to 9. Toy Kit options include Action Figures, Dolls & Doll Houses, Animals & Dinosaurs, Musical Instruments Play Kitchen Sets, Cars & Monster Trucks, Sensory Friendly Toys and Building Blocks.
For information and to view available toy kits, go to https://www.mdpls.org/toy-library.
