The Emmy and Gold Medal Award-winning South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYSmusic.org), one of the nation’s leading youth music organizations, still is accepting applications for its 26th annual Music Academy, at the Pawley Creative Arts Center on the Miami Dade College North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Ave.

The popular summer program, which includes youngsters ages 3-18 years old, runs June 20-July 14, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Half day violin training sessions are available for youth ages 3-7.

This year’s Summer Music Academy also will feature a one-week brass-intensive workshop, July 17-21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ranging from beginners through advanced, the camp will feature state-of-the-art sessions for classical strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion, music theory and conducting taught by a world-class faculty.

“The Summer Music Academy is designed for young beginners through advanced players,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “With our staff of educational and music professionals, the Summer Music Academy is the perfect place for kids to begin — or expand — their musical talents.”

Tuition for the four-week camp is $600 and $525 for siblings from families with more than one attendee. Morning sessions, 8:30-11:30 a.m. are $300. Brass Week is $200.

There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee (applied to the tuition). Full and partial scholarships are available for special needs youth and those with economic needs.
The SFYS program is sponsored with the support of Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, The Miami Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, The Children’s Trust, (through public referendum improving the lives of families and children by making strategic investments in their future). The State of Florida Division of Arts & Culture, The Miami Dade County Office of Management and Budget, The Kirk Foundation, The Nancy Friday Foundation, and Miami Dade College North Campus.
