The threat of Hurricane Helene didn’t keep nearly 200 of the South Dade community from coming out to honor 1st Responders at the South Dade Chamber’s 2nd Annual Heroes Breakfast.  “I am deeply honored to recognize and celebrate our courageous first responders in South Dade. Being the presenting sponsor of the South Dade Chamber Heroes Breakfast was a privilege, allowing me to express my gratitude for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice. Together, we stand in appreciation of the heroes who serve our community every day,” said Kionne McGhee Commissioner District 9.

The 1st Responders honored were from the Police Departments of Cutler Bay, Florida City, Homestead, Miami Dade Agriculture and Miccosukee. Also honored was a member of the Miami Dade Fire Rescue, Florida Department of Corrections and ER staff from Homestead and Jackson South Hospitals.

“The Heroes breakfast event was wonderful. It’s always great to recognize the first responders in our community. Often, they can feel forgotten because, in the midst of our daily duties, we may lose sight of how many people we positively impact,” said Homestead Police Department’s Capt Garland Wright.

This thought was echoed by Det Andre Martin of the Miami-Dade Police Department, “While no Law Enforcement Officer enters into this profession for recognition, it is always a source of motivation to know that the community we work to protect and serve appreciates what our officers do, day in and day out to keep them safe.”

The breakfast was held on Thursday September 26 at the lush, sub-tropical grounds of Mon Petit Garden in the Miami Agritourism Redland District. Owner Jennifer DeAngelis said, “I donate the space because the work the 1st Responders do is not easy. I am very grateful.”

Each honoree was presented for the award by a supervisor from their department that explained why he or she had been chosen. Firefighter and honoree Michael Latimer said, “Selflessness often goes unnoticed, but the Hero’s Breakfast created a space for good works to be acknowledged. It was an honor to be recognized.”

Thanks was also extended to the event organizer, “The Miami-Dade Police Department would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the South Dade Chamber of Commerce for honoring our officers at the recent “Heroes Breakfast,” said Det Martin.

In what has become an annual event, the South Dade Chamber’s Heroes Breakfast brings together the bravest of South Dade and its thankful community. The South Dade Chamber Event Chair, Kenneth Wright said, “We are proud to organize this event and look forward to having you join us for our 2025 Heroes Breakfast.”
